about my practice

I am a visual artist with a specialization in graphic design. Initially acclaimed for my achievements as a competitive snowboarder representing Russia, I underwent a significant transformation, shifting my focus towards the realm of visual arts via Central Saint Martins.

My artistic journey is a reflection of my diverse life experiences. Drawing extensively from my background in international sports and my cultural identity, my creative practice spans various mediums including digital art, zine making, illustration, installation, and performance. Inspired by my past as a professional athlete, my artworks often delve into nuanced explorations of themes such as privacy, societal expectations, and national identity. Since the third year at CSM, which was marked with the beginning of Russian-Ukranian war, my artworks have become more politicized and are a reflection of my civil position and a social commentary on the current state of affairs in my country.

Some of my earlier projects engaged with gender dynamics and decision making within sports, with a publication "Gearslut" (2021). While "Bad Sport" (2022) dissects the complexities and pressures inherent in elite sports. "Newspeak 2021" and "Nesoglasnost" (2022) offer poignant reflections on my experiences as a Russian navigating a complex geopolitical landscape.

In essence, my artistic journey embodies a synthesis of personal introspection and societal critique. Through my diversified artistic practice, I aim to articulate a compelling narrative that transcends conventional boundaries, offering insights into the complexities of the life of an expat, torn between nostalgia for unclouded patriotism and the reality of the modern geopolitical situation.
